SUMMARY:Oberlander Prize Forum IV: Soak It Up Conference
DESCRIPTION:“Designing for Urban Flooding and Managing the Los Angeles River” \nWater\, water management\, and climate change accelerated urban flooding are of paramount import and concern to residents and decision makers in Southern California. The Cultural Landscape Foundation (TCLF) in partnership with the University of Southern California (USC) and the SWA Group are gathering leading industry\, non-profit\, and academic professionals for a daylong conference on Friday December 5\, 2025\, at USC’s Bovard Auditorium that will focus on landscape architecture’s leadership role in addressing critical water management issues. SUMMARY:LA Grown: Landscape Design in Southern CaliforniaPanel Discussion
DESCRIPTION: Please join the ICAA SoCal in a lively and timely conversation on creating beautiful and ecologically sound landscapes in Southern California\, held beside UCLA’s Mathias Botanical Garden. \nLed by Stephanie Landregan\, Director of UCLA Extension’s Landscape Architecture Program\, the evening’s conversation will explore working within our unique climate to create lush\, water-wise outdoor spaces. Four leaders in the field – David Godshall of Terremoto\, Wade Graham of Wade Graham Design\, Mary Sager McFadden of Pamela Burton & Company\, and Juan Ospina of Hoffman & Ospina – will speak to the creation of spaces that delight the senses and have sustainability at their core. From strategies for erosion control to using water to create cooler temperatures in projects\, guests will hear from these experts about their design philosophies\, working methods\, and lessons learned from experience. \nOur conversation will be held at La Kretz Garden Pavilion\, adjacent to the UCLA Mathias Botanical Garden\, which guests may enjoy till its 6pm closing time. \nTwo AIA HSW Credits Eligible\, Two ASLA PDH Credits Eligible. \nPanelists:\nMary Sager McFadden is a principal and registered landscape architect at Pamela Burton & Company with 38 years of professional experience in both the architectural and landscape architectural fields. Mary’s careful site analysis\, attention to detail\, and innovative design work contribute to the creation of beautiful and authentic places. She oversees a wide variety of projects\, including residential estates\, healthcare campuses\, public parks and institutional master plans. \nDavid Godshall is a landscape architect\, horticultural theorist and the design director of the Terremoto office in Los Angeles\, which he founded with Alain Peauroi in 2012. David’s strategic approach to design is inherently rooted in philosophy and the idea that ecology\, horticulture and landscape have transformative physical and metaphorical impacts upon a person and a place. \nJuan Camilo Ospina Londoño is based in Hoffman & Ospina’s California\, Texas\, and New York offices. He is a principal landscape architect known for exceptional outdoor environments for high-end residences and estates. With over 25 years of experience in landscape architecture\, construction management\, and estate design\, Juan leads projects from concept through completion\, ensuring that artistic vision is seamlessly translated into buildable reality. Beyond his professional practice\, Juan is committed to community engagement\, teaching art and martial arts to underserved youth and mentoring the next generation of designers. \nWade Graham is a historian\, journalist\, and landscape designer based in Los Angeles. He has three decades of experience designing gardens throughout California. He is the author of numerous books including Dream Cities: Seven Urban Ideas That Shape the World\, a global history of visionary urbanism (HarperCollins\, 2016)\, and Braided Waters: Environment and Society in Molokai\, Hawaii\, an environmental history of Hawaii (University of California Press\, 2018). \nModerator:\nStephanie Landregan\, FASLA\, is an award-winning landscape architect and the Director for the Landscape Architecture Program and the Horticulture & Gardening Program at UCLA Extension. In her previous role as Chief Landscape Architect for the Mountains Recreation and Conservation Authority\, Stephanie designed public access to open space in Los Angeles and Ventura counties. Her native plant gardens have been featured on the Theodore Payne Tour. Stephanie has also worked passionately with legislators on ordinances that impact landscape: including tree code\, fire code\, low impact development\, and water conservation. \nICAA Members: Free\, membership verified.\nCurrent UCLA Students: Free\, valid student ID required.\nNon-Members: $30 \nCLICK HERE TO RSVP \nThank you to Picture Perfect Construction & DSI for your sponsorship of this event.

SUMMARY:Quality of Life Design Awards - Celebration
DESCRIPTION:For over 40 years\, the Quality-of-Life Design Awards has been the signature event of our chapter—an event held every other year that goes far beyond the presentation of awards. It’s a time for our community to come together in celebration of our profession\, our students\, our Fellows\, and all who contribute to the field of landscape architecture. \nThis year began in unimaginable ways\, with the devastating Los Angeles wildfires in January impacting many of our members\, friends\, and colleagues. Yet\, as landscape architects\, we have always responded with unity and resilience—just as we did after the Northridge Earthquake in 1996 and again following 9/11. \nPlease join us for this meaningful evening under the stars on the Water Court Plaza at the Omni Hotel Los Angeles. \nREGISTER HERE \n  \n \n
