SUMMARY:Renewing San Antonio's Brackenridge Park
DESCRIPTION:Mia Lehrer\, FASLA\, is proud to participate in the 2017 TCLF Summit Leading with Landscape III: Renewing San Antonio’s Brackenridge Park. In its third year\, the “Leading with Landscape series” has proven to be an exceptional conversation on urban landscape issues for planning and design professionals as well as the general public. Mia will present the LA River as a case study to help inform the planning process for Brackenridge Park. \nRegister today for the one-day conference on Friday\, March 3. \nOne of San Antonio’s most significant but least known cultural gems\, Brackenridge Park was one of the nation’s earliest municipal parks and the water source for the area’s world famous missions. The summit will explore how the park’s layers of history\, culture\, and ecology inform its future design and stewardship and what lessons other municipalities can learn from the San Antonio example. \nJoin public agencies\, planners\, landscape architects\, and the public for this summit where deep local knowledge meets national exemplars of planning and design to help create a future that balances the landscape’s complex natural\, historic\, cultural\, and ecological systems.\nFor more information on the summit\, please visit the following links: \nTCLF Facebook page\nTCLF Twitter page \nFor more info and summit registration

SUMMARY:A Conversation with Women from Cal Poly Pomona Landscape Architecture
DESCRIPTION:As part of Cal Poly Pomona Department of Landscape Architecture’s 60th Anniversary celebrations\, the department is pleased to host a screening of the documentary “Ruth Shellhorn: Midcentury Landscape Design in Southern California.” The documentary will be followed by a short presentation on Shellhorn’s work and a panel discussion moderated by Kelly Comras\, landscape architect and CPPLA alumna. \nRuth Shellhorn’s influence in the field of landscape architecture cannot be overstated. During World War II she worked on the Shoreline Development Study\, which established restrictions on oil drilling in Santa Monica Bay and informed the goals of the California Coastal Act. Her many works include such iconic examples as Bullock’s department stores and Fashion Square shopping centers\, the University of California-Riverside\, and perhaps her most well-known commission\, a major contribution to the landscape design for Disneyland. \nThe panelists for our post-screening discussion represent 40 years of CPPLA alumnae: Sara Abed\, Jennifer Birkeland\, Natasha Harkison\, Tori Kjer\, Kiku Kurahashi\, and Eileen Takata. The panel will examine the evolving role of women in landscape architecture and highlight the contributions of decades of CPPLA alumnae. The Ruth Shellhorn Scholarship winners for 2016\, Amanda Flores and Dwen-Dwen Wang\, will share their perspectives as current seniors in the program. Immediately following the screening and discussion there will be a cake cutting\, and a book signing with author Kelly Comras. \nImmediately following the screening and discussion\, there will be a reception and book signing with author Kelly Comras. \n6:00 pm – Doors open\, light reception\n6:30 pm – Program begins\n8:00 pm – CPPLA 60th Anniversary Cake! \nSpecial thanks to CPPLA’s generous Sponsors:\nBob Perry\, USC\nEPTDESIGN\nSALT Landscape Architects\nScott Horsley + Associates\nand\nCalvin Abe and Linda Daley\, Ahbe\nMike Boucher\, EPTDESIGN\nBob Cardoza\, NUVIS\nPamela Galera\, City of Anaheim\nGlenn Matsui\, Cal Poly Pomona\nKen Nakaba\, Cal Poly Pomona\nJim Pickel\, UCLA Extension\nMeagan Yellot\, Brightview

Proceeds go directly to habitat restoration projects. Register on our website. Prepayment required. \nLocation: 600 E Memory Lane\, Santa Ana\, CA 92705
