SUMMARY:The Gottlieb Garden UCLAxOpen Lecture Series - California in a Vase: Native Plant Arrangements for Every Season
DESCRIPTION:More than 30 years ago\, Susan Gottlieb\, creator of The Gottlieb Native Garden\, started on a journey that would ultimately convert her one-acre property in Los Angeles into one of the premier native gardens in the United States. Today\, it’s a flourishing ecosystem\, containing 200 species of California native plants and trees. \nAs this ecosystem’s architect\, Susan has cultivated a miniature biome that’s a National Wildlife Federation Certified Backyard Habitat\, a Xerces Society designated Pollinator Habitat\, and an active site for scientific research\, education\, and collaboration among a wide range of environmental groups and universities. In her talk\, Susan shares stories and photos from this urban oasis. \n  \n  \nLandscape Architecture and Horticulture Programs Gottlieb \n  \n \nREGISTER HERE

SUMMARY:202 Plant Fair
DESCRIPTION:In coordination with The LA Arboretum\, come get inspired for Fall/Winter planting season. This event combines both educational talks AND plant displays for sale and discussion from the top SoCal wholesale growers.   \nEnjoy talking one-on-one with the leaders in the industry. Hear their recommendations for plantings for the fall. What plants are tough enough for the new challenges from our climate?   What are the new gorgeous cultivars?  \nIt is a smashing day for anyone in the landscape profession or a passionate horticulturalist or home gardener.  \nThis event can be enjoyed for a  whole day affair\, or you could just pop in and peruse the plants for a few hours.  It was very popular in 2018 and 2019\, and now we are back.    \nTickets have a timed entry point (am or pm)\, but you can stay as long as you want once you are there. The ticket also includes access to the LA Arboretum. You can definitely make a day of it. \n \nIn addition\, the very popular OPPORTUNITY DRAWINGS will occur 2x in the day. You will be given a wrist band and an OPPORTUNITY TICKET as you check in.  \nTicket holders all have a chance to win a plant (or two).  You must be present to win. Note the schedule below for timing. \nPlease join the fun for a full day of lectures\, shopping and mix-and- mingling with top SoCal growers & wholesale nurseries.   \nEnjoy IN PERSON shopping and mingling in Ayres Hall’s AIR-CONDITIONED splendor. \n \nCHANGES PER COVID:  \nYou must buy your ticket on the LA ARBORETUM website and select an available TIMED ENTRY point.  BUY HERE.  \nNote that the Arboretum has been consistently selling out of available time slots\, so don’t wait until the last minute. \nTickets must be pre-purchased online only. \nYour purchase for the event includes access to the Arboretum. \nMasks will be required to enter Ayers Hall.  \nLecture area seats will be spaced as much as possible\, but that also means limited seats are available.  \nPlease plan ahead and buy your tickets online early. You know it’s going to be a fantastic event.  Don’t risk getting locked out!   \nThe Plant fair begins at 8:30 am. Come early for a cup of coffee and get in before regular LA Arboretum crowds.  \nThe featured presentation schedule by leaders in the industry is attached. More than 14 of Southern California’s top wholesale nurseries will be attending. More will be added closer to the event. \nPartial list of participating vendors below. \n3.5 CEUs for APLD MEMBERS \nHere is the LINK TO LA ARBORETUM SALES \nPRICING FOR TICKETS ON LA Arboretum site:  \nTICKET TYPE: \nGENERAL ADMISSION – $25.\nLA ARBORETUM MEMBERS – $15\nAPLD MEMBERS – $17\nSTUDENTS W/ID – $18 \n

SUMMARY:Quality of Life Design Awards - Reception and Presentation
DESCRIPTION:This year’s theme\, “The Growing Importance of Outdoors\,” speaks to what we already know. The outdoors is a crucial part of our existence. It became more evident to others during the COVID-19 pandemic. As a community\, people spoke out about the lack of it in some neighborhoods\, and the abundance in others. Our backyards became respites from home schooling\, working from home\, and places to see others more safely.\n\nThe award presentation will be held at the Omni Hotel Los Angeles\, “outdoor” Water Court Plaza on September 30.\n\nRegister Here
