As of January 2, 2025, the amendments to the Model Water Efficient Landscape Ordinance (MWELO) have been approved by the California Office of Administrative Law (OAL) and are effective upon filing with the Secretary of State and are in effect. As a reminder, these approved MWELO amendments were done to reduce ambiguities, provide clarity, and improve organization per the Governor’s Water Resilience Portfolio (2020), Action 2.2. The amendments also implement two new additional statutes provisions directed from Government Code section 65596 and otherwise do not modify or add requirements.
