Greetings ASLA Southern California Chapter, and specifically to our Emerging Professionals! 2024 has been a fantastic year for ASLA SoCal and the Emerging Professional Committee (EPC) – throughout the year we hosted a series of in-person and virtual events (all entirely free to ASLA members) focused on programs that advance our chapters strategic objectives of: Advocacy, Diversity, Education and Fellowship.

Throughout 2024 we: convened a conversation with our ASLA SoCal 2024 President HongJoo Kim; toured Isla Intersections with Holos Communities and Agency Artifact; learned about Test Plot’s stewardship initiatives with Jen Toy in a virtual webinar, followed by a volunteer community gardening day at Elysian Park’s Test Plot with Jenny Jones; and met up at Ginger Rogers State Beach with Carlos Flores for a Pride Month Sketch Event. We also welcomed Stephanie Landregan, FASLA and Emily Gabel-Ludy, FASLA to a session on Advocacy 101, an Introduction to Advocacy for Emerging Professionals in Landscape Architecture – the session covered topics related to how advocacy impacts us as emerging professionals, the impact it has on our professional work, and how to get more involved at different levels. Thank you so much to all of our amazing guests and local professionals who helped deliver such incredible and important programs for our EPs this year!

As the future of the profession, the ASLA SoCal chapter is dedicated to supporting emerging professionals. Thanks to amazing efforts by our ASLA SoCal Programs Chair, Colleen Cochran and Chapter leadership, ASLA SoCal also offered free introductory webinars to each of the sections of the LARE exam to emerging professional ASLA Members of Southern California throughout 2024 and will continue this programming in 2025.

CALL FOR INTEREST 2025-2026 ASLA SoCal EPC Chair

Are you interested in serving our local chapter as the next ASLA SoCal Emerging Professional Committee (EPC) Chair?

With a goal of creating more targeted outreach with Emerging Professionals (EPs), ASLA Southern California’s Emerging Professionals Committee (EPC) engages Student ASLA, Associate ASLA, and emerging ASLA members across our SoCal chapter. The focus of the EPC is to coordinate and maintain a network of emerging professionals in the field of Landscape Architecture, and to provide opportunities for volunteering and service events, educational and learning programs, and social and networking meet-ups (hosted virtually and in-person) to support local EPs.

Our 2021-2024 EPC Chair, Jared Edgar McKnight, will be stepping down from his role in mid-2025, and is looking to onboard a new EPC Chair. If you are interested in getting more involved with ASLA SoCal as the EPC Chair, or if you have questions, please reach out to our ASLA SoCal Executive Director, Vicki Phillipy, Hon.
