Last week, the Trump Administration released a final rule that would gut the most important provisions of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). This is the latest move in a series of attempts to destroy America’s bedrock environmental protections, including using the pandemic as cover and an excuse to suspend portions of NEPA last month.

The final rule would prevent agencies from considering the devastating impacts of climate change on communities and the environment, limit the scope of federal projects that would be required to comply with NEPA regulations, and severely restrict public participation in the NEPA rulemakings and other actions. In fact, this final rule would make it nearly impossible for the American people, especially those in Black and underserved communities, from commenting on projects that affect them and their health.
