This year the Climate Action Committee will embark on an exploration of how we can support and play a role in community self-reliance and climate change resilience. This month many of us will enjoy the ASLA Conference in New Orleans, he ASLA 2025 Conference “Beyond Boundaries’ where the profession will “celebrate the power of landscape architects to create innovative, resilient solutions that transcend traditional physical, political, and cultural barriers.” Continuing with this theme, we will look at how landscape architects are exploring these boundaries to advance the potential of communities and support their vision and self-reliance.
The publication ‘Transgressive Practices to Transformative Policies‘ published by the Center for American Architecture and Design was the result of the symposium of the same name organized by Meadows Foundation Centennial Fellow Maggie Hansen, Assistant professor at the University of Texas at Austin. Terremoto LA’s Test Plot in Elysian Park is one of the transgressive practices highlighted here. Join us for the next Climate Action Committee meeting to discuss initial thoughts on how we want to explore these boundaries together; from large firms to small studios and single practitioners.
