It is with a heavy heart that we say good-bye to Pete DiLallo who passed away unexpectedly on November 19, 2020 while with family in Yucca Valley, CA. He was a wonderful man, talented landscape architect, friend; and above all, he was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. His patience, creativity and knowledge of construction made him a perfect mentor.
In the late 1960’s Pete worked with Joan Hamilton as Hamilton, DiLallo & Associates. Then, in 1971, Robert R. Cardoza, PLA, FASLA, and Peter DiLallo, PLA, ASLA, founded Cardoza DiLallo & Associates. Their goal was a commitment to the responsible planning of open space with an awareness for preservation and conservation. Richard E. Harrington, PLA, ASLA, partnered up with Bob and Pete and the firm was renamed Cardoza DiLallo Harrington, Landscape Architecture and Planning Partnership. In 1990, Cardoza DiLallo Harrington transitioned to NUVIS Landscape Architecture and Planning.
Pete was married for 52 years. He had five daughters, three granddaughters and five grandsons. An avid golfer and huge Dodger fan, Pete had a wonderful, witty sense of humor that everyone enjoyed. He left a big void in this world and will be sorely missed.
In 1992, Pete formed his own corporation, DiLallo Landscape Architecture, Inc. where he worked until the day he died. His services included site analysis, landscape architecture, golf development services, governmental agency coordination, as well as the preparation of conceptual, preliminary and construction documents and construction observation.
In recent days before his passing, Pete had been working on some plans with Perry Cardoza on how best to celebrate the upcoming 50th Anniversary of NUVIS in 2021. The profession suffered a great loss this year with the passing of both Robert Cardoza and Pete DiLallo. But, we can take comfort in knowing that Bob and Pete are together again. They are likely telling stories, reminiscing and having a marvelous time.
