The Southern California Chapter of ASLA is pleased to announce the Call for Presentations for its first in-person Climate Symposium to be held on Earth Day April 22, 2023. This event is a “Call to Action” for landscape architects and a way to network, collaborate, inspire, education, and facilitate action.

Topics must address at least one of the following issues:

  1. Carbon reduction
  2. Adaptation to local climate conditions
  3. Heat
  4. Flooding
  5. Sea level rise
  6. Wildfire resilience
  7. Food insecurity
  8. Biodiversity preservation
  9. Climate justice
  10. Regenerative design
  11. Natural systems approach to design, implementation and post-construction.

Work may include:

  1. Designed project, planning projects, or built projects of any scale from residential to regional.
  2. Policy work and community engagement work that is private, public, or non-profit” collaboration is highly encouraged.
  3. Research work that supports landscape architectural solutions. “Cross disciplinary” collaboration is highly encouraged.

The Southern California Chapter is accepting submissions starting November 8, 2022. The deadline to submit has been extended to January 31, 2023 by 11:59 PM. Notifications of acceptance will take place between February 15 and February 28, 2023. All proposal submissions or questions should be sent to climate@socal-asla.org or aslasocal@socal-asla.org.

We hope to receive a range of responses on this symposium topic from landscape architects working across private, public, and non-profit sectors. Please also forward the Call for Presentations along to your community collaborators and colleagues in allied fields. Presentations can be made by individuals or groups.

A 500-1,000 word statement of the proposed presentation along with other information is required for submitting.
