On Sunday, November 19, 2023, the ASLA SoCal Emerging Professional Committee hosted a November Meet-Up at Vista Hermosa Natural Park in Los Angeles, the 2023 recipient of ASLA National’s Landmark Award.
The event began with networking from 10:30-11am followed by a brief address by ASLA SoCal President Hongjoo Kim, and an introduction by the ASLA SoCal EPC Chair Jared McKnight, before a site tour of the park by Studio-MLA’s Mike Hee, Landscape Architect and Jake Geitner, Landscape Designer from 11-12, with additional discussion following the tour. There were a great collection of ASLA members representing students, emerging professionals, and general members who engaged in discussion about the park design, how the park has grown and evolved over the last 15 years, and the impact that the park has on its surrounding community and users (along with some testing of the nature play area)! This was our most attended EP event of 2023, a great way to end out the year, and we got some great ideas for more EP-specific programs in 2024!
