President of Hourian Associates, John Hourian, ASLA passed away Wednesday afternoon, January 11 after a long illness. John’s daughter Nicole said, “Dad loved what he did and was so proud of all the people he knew. He was not only a professional, but a teacher. He loved coffee, cars, food and wine.”
John began his journey in 1969 graduating from the California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Environmental Design, majoring in Landscape Architecture. Following this, he is also proud to have been one of the three founding members of the CLASS Fund (California Landscape Architectural Student Scholarship), designed to assist undergraduate or graduate students enrolled in programs in landscape architecture and ornamental horticulture in California. He remained an active member of American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) and served as the past President of the Southern California Chapter in 1975 and 1980.

The family is making plans for a memorial service at the Presbyterian Church in San Juan Capistrano followed by a celebration at a separate location tentatively scheduled for March. The Chapter will notify our members and colleagues once this information becomes available. John is survived by his wife Beryl; his daughter, Nicole and husband Brett Nunn; his daughter Erika and husband Kris Spear and six grandchildren, Fletcher, Lola, Walker, Grayson, Sheldon and Shane.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to the California Landscape Architecture Student Scholarship (CLASS Fund) in John Hourian’s name. Mail donations to: CLASS Fund; 360 E. 1st Street, #399, Tustin, CA 92780
